DESCRIPTION: The mission of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is to ease the burden of cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Key principles: Focus programming on community needs Apply data-based knowledge in setting and evaluating actions Seek collaborative opportunities and solutions to programming needs Maintain an entrepreneurial culture Seek to balance public and private funding VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Volunteers work as vital members of Cancer Institute committees. Join a committee now, have fun helping with a Cancer Institute event and raise much-needed funds for the Cancer Institute. CASUAL Day (Colon cancer Saves Unlimited Adult Lives) C.A.S.U.A.L. Day is an educational awareness campaign held each March to raise awareness about the increased burden of colon cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the importance of screening, and early detection. C.A.S.U.A.L. Day is designated as the last Thursday of March. On this day, participants dress casual while wearing a specially designed pin, wrist-band and/or custom t-shirt. Cancer Survivors Day- All cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, family and friends or any individual affected by a cancer diagnosis in northeast Pennsylvania are invited to attend Annual Cancer Survivors Day. This event includes the “Circle of Survivors,” an activity where those in attendance will be able to share a thought or inspirational message about their cancer experience. Additionally, there are survivor and caregiver ribbons & pins, programs, and light refreshments. Spirit of Hope Celebration- The Spirit of Hope Celebration is hosted by the Board of Ambassadors, a group of individuals and business leaders in Northeastern Pennsylvania who have come together to raise funds & awareness to fight cancer in the local community through their support and promotion of a gala event. Funds raised support the Cancer Institute's Community Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program, which helps low income individuals in northeastern Pennsylvania access direct cancer related health-care services.
