DESCRIPTION: The Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program is conducted under the Voluntary Action Center and is designed to provide one to one friendship and guidance to children between the ages of 6 and 14 from absent parent homes. STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Traditional Program: Big Brothers/sisters visits with his or her little brother/sister each week. Together they decide what they will do during their visits in the community. FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Same as students but also the opportunity to be part of Advisory Council. TIME COMMITMENT: The volunteer should be willing to spend two to four hours every 2 weeks for at least one school year with the child. CHILD ABUSE AND STATE POLICE CLEARANCES REQUIRED FBI fingerprinting may be reimbursed. Training provided.
