If you enjoy interacting with seniors, join us for just an hour or for a whole day. You can volunteer your time every day, once a week, once a month or once a year. We also invite volunteers who can play the piano, sing or have other talents to share. Senior Day Services’ Volunteers can: Assist staff with arts and crafts projects Participate in group activities Read to our seniors Share their talents with the group Bring their children — seniors love them! Assist with Bingo, Bunco, cards and various table games Show slides/videos of vacations and trips Help with lunch set up and clean up Senior Day Services welcomes volunteers who are attuned to the elderly, enjoy their company and appreciate the wisdom that only age and experience can bring. Whether you participate a little or a lot, your donation of time or supplies is greatly appreciated. Older adults want to remain in their homes as long as possible. In some instances, they may need some support or assistance with daily living tasks. Our Senior Day Services’ Senior Companions are here to help. This program was designed to help our region’s older adults remain independent and in their homes as long as possible and encourage friendship and connection with other seniors in the community. This is a free service for a few hours, one or two days a week available to Lackawanna County’s elder population. Our Senior Companion Program Volunteers provide: Assistance with daily tasks Encouragement to remain active and connected A watchful eye to notice when a client may need extra care Friendships that can last a lifetime Senior Companion Progam Volunteers also provide needed respite for caregivers so they can run errands, take a needed break or tend to themselves, their families and other commitments.
