DESCRIPTION: The Gardens at Scranton is a The Gardens at Scranton for Nursing and Rehabilitation is a 139-bed skilled nursing facility in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Our center offers short-term rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy as well as long-term care. Our amenities include a brick fireplace, deck and snack shop. STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Volunteers can visit one to one with withdrawn/depressed residents; help with letter writing; accompany residents to patio, aid staff in large group programming, play games with residents. Volunteers can also help decorate bulletin boards for residents. Always looking for donations of anything residents could use. FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: As above, lead programs of interest in specialty, assist staff with program ideas, utilization of resources. TIME COMMITMENT: Daily: mornings, afternoons, personal schedule may be observed, arranged with Recreation Director or assistant. Orientation to facility (tour), fire alarm system, confidentiality, resident rights, appropriate policy and procedures. Volunteer handbooks. Inservices as they would want too. Clearances required: abuse and criminal background check *Walking distance from the University of Scranton.
