Description
The Greenhouse Project is growing a sustainable community through education, wholesome food, and healthy active living. The Greenhouse Project’s goal is to educate children and adults about horticulture, health, preventing disease through diet, and locally-grown food. Plants, herbs and flower sales sustain the mission. The Greenhouse Project operates an 3000 sq. ft. environmental learning space at the The James Barrett McNulty Greenhouse in Nay Aug Park. We manage several community gardens, host school field trips and gardening projects, offer classes to individuals teaching how to grow and cook food, how to become more active for a disease free life. Through partnerships with schools, farmers, organizations, business and residents, The Greenhouse Project strives for a food system that is healthy for people and the environment and support disease prevention through diet and exercise. As a public charity, our programs benefit education and local hunger projects. The James Barrett McNulty Greenhouse was made possible by generous grant from The Walmart Foundation. Support has been received by The Scranton Area Foundation, Gertrude Hawk Chocolate, The William G. McGowan Foundation, Penn Foster, Toyota of Scranton and many others. We operate with an agreement with Nay Aug Park Recreation Authority and the City of Scranton. Volunteers can help with community gardens in the Hill Section, in addition to assisting at sales throughout the year.
