The Scranton Council of Literacy Advance, also known as SCOLA Volunteers for Literacy, is a volunteer-based program of United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania that provides confidential literacy instruction at no charge to adult residents of Lackawanna County, both native and foreign-born, so that they may acquire the basic reading, writing, and life skills necessary to function effectively in society. SCOLA also promotes literacy for all people through advocacy, support, training, and outreach programs. STUDENT/FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Tutoring one-to-one or a small group (2-3) of adults. Individual tutor training provided via video, training hours are flexible, and tutor three hours per week based on your availability TIME COMMITMENT: 2-3 hrs. per week.
