Description
Visit our YouTube channel to see our more about United Neighborhood Centers... https://youtu.be/0-EKD0q78a0 UNC is one of the largest, and longest operating, nonprofit organizations in the region. The agency’s purpose is to meet the needs of local low-income families, seniors, youth, and new immigrants while also empowering them to attain self-sufficiency. MISSION: To work together with neighbors to provide services and create opportunities that empower individuals and build strong, interdependent communities. VISION: To address emerging social needs and be an innovative leader in building strong interdependent communities based upon our traditional commitment of partnering with individuals, families and neighborhoods. UNC is proud to be an independent member agency of the United Way of Lackawanna & Wayne Counties, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, National Low Income Housing Coalition, and Housing Coalition of Lackawanna County. TIME COMMITMENT: Flexible UNC has numerous opportunities for volunteers to make a real impact in the community. Examples include: Lead an activity (computer instruction, arts & crafts, exercise, cards, dancing, creative writing, etc.) for our older adults or youth program. Help sort and organize donations at UNC’s Angel’s Attic food and clothing bank, or hold a food or clothing drive at your place of work or school to support the Attic. Serve as a volunteer teacher, tutor, or conversation partner for UNC’s English as a Second Language program (training and instruction materials provided) Field work/internship is also available when arrangements are made through the appropriate faculty departments. *Within walking distance from the University of Scranton, also on/near COLTS bus route, free with your Royal ID
