I Can Cope is a series of educational classes for people with cancer, their families and friends. Three sessions are in the module adn support from ACS staff will be given throughout the process. Location: Lackawanna County Time Commitment: The I Can Cope program is to be conducted once in the spring of 2003. The project will require about 25 contact hours. Benefits to program participants: I Can Cope was developed in 1977. The program helps those dealing with cancer learn more about cancer and the difficulties they are facing. Cancer can be one of the most difficult challenges a person faces, and I Can Cope helps people meet those challenges by clarifying the myths and facts about cancer. Benefits to students: Practice in organizing and implementing a public health education program to a target community; opportunity to understand more clearly the educational needs of people with cancer, their families and friends; and a chance to work with the ACS and NEPA AHEC both national and local in orientation and action.
