DESCRIPTION: Lourdesmont/Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services is a non-profit adolescent treatment center sponsored by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, an international community of religiously committed women who draw upon a rich 300-year tradition in the field of human services, working especially with the individual troubled or lost in society. Lourdesmont provides therapeutic day programs and interventions for girls and boys, age 12 to 18, referred primarily from the catchment area of the Lackawanna-Susquehanna Mental Health program, as well as services to their families and outreach services to the community. STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: tutoring, leisure time activities, arts and crafts instruction, library work, transportation, one-on-one companionship. Volunteers must be 21 years of age. FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: as above. TIME COMMITMENT: Most assistance is needed in the after-school hours and weekends. However, some programs need volunteers during the school day. Individual time commitments can range from one hour to one school day. Volunteer orientation and agency philosophy is provided.
