Description
Special Events/ Friends of the Blind Helen Keller Day is a fashion show and luncheon held every year since 1930. Helen Keller Day is one of the Association’s two biggest annual fundraising events. Volunteers are needed to assist in many aspects of preparation for this event, including raffle ticket and program ad sales, and acquisition of raffle prize donations. The Friends of the Blind are a group of women and men who commit annually to support the agency and our mission by working year-round to make this major fundraiser a huge success. Funds raised by the Friends of the Blind pay for annual special outings for the clients, and support all our programs. Friends of the Blind assist with Helen Keller Day in so many ways—selling tickets and raffles, getting a table of guests together for the luncheon, basket donations, staffing booths and more. On-Going Programs Sensory Development Program: Assist with projects and activities designed to improve our blind and visually impaired clients’ ability to function independently by enhancing their other senses. Drivers: Serve as substitute drivers when our caseworkers are unavailable, to provide our clients with round-trip transportation for grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments and other errands, using your own vehicle (you will be reimbursed for mileage). Volunteer drivers must agree to a background check, have or obtain child abuse clearances, and provide proof of a clean driving record. Are you interested in joining the Friends of the Blind or learning more about our volunteer opportunities? Just contact us at the Agency and we’ll help you get started!
