DESCRIPTION: The Mental Retardation Services Department provides an array of community-based options for children, adolescents, adults (with Mental Retardation) which include developmental, vocational, social and recreational opportunities in Lackawanna, Wayne and Susquehanna Counties. The Department promotes and supports inclusive options for all. NHS takes interns and has paid positions. STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: One-to-one and small group experiences in any of the above mentioned. FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Open to coordination /discussion of ideas. TIME COMMITMENT: Generally flexible dependent upon type of option(s) in which individual is interested in volunteering. Overview of M.R.; philosophy, responsibility, etc. Opportunity to attend additional training as interest/schedule allows.
