Description
The Deutsch Institute has been serving the Northeast Region of Pennsylvania since 1979. We are dedicated to developing and expanding the leisure and recreational interests for individuals with special needs. The Deutsch Institute makes use of existing resources and facilities as well as volunteer services to initiate pilot programs as well as cooperative community ventures with social service agencies. Verve Vertu Art Studio (Verve, meaning high energy, and Vertu, meaning excellence in objects of art) is an arts apprentice studio developed in conjunction with the Deutsch Institute. It focuses on tapping into the creative energy of individuals living with emotional, physical, and intellectual development disabilities. Instructors introduce a variety of mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, fibers, batik, wool needle felting, and inks, to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. The artwork is for sale at the Verve Vertu gift shop. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: A specific goal of the Deutsch Institute is to recruit and train a pool of volunteers to develop skills and confidence when working with persons with disabilities. Volunteers are also needed for the art studio in Dallas PA (about 30 minutes from U of S) TIME COMMITMENT: Varies. VOLUNTEER TRAINING/AGENCY ORIENTATION AVAILABLE:
