DESCRIPTION: Day Nursery is one of the 50 oldest continually operating childcare centers in the country. Since it’s establishment, the Nursery has a rich history and tradition of growing and adapting to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. Though much has changed though the years, our basic philosophy has never wavered. Day Nursery operates with the belief that each family comes with its own unique ethnic, cultural and familial backgrounds, values and beliefs. All children, parents, teachers and staff deserve the right to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of gender, cultural, or religious background. With respect to each child’s beginnings, Day Nursery strives to foster a secure, loving and safe environment that encourages children to develop at their own pace in all areas. STUDENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Helping teachers in our classrooms with the daily care and teaching of the children gives volunteers the opportunity to learn about child development through interaction with children. FACULTY/STAFF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Generally, the same as for students. We may be able to accommodate a faculty or staff member who has something special he/she wants to offer, for example a dance or aerobics class. Volunteers learn hands on from the head teacher in their assigned classroom how to provide quality care for young children. Clearances are required *Within walking distance from the University of Scranton.E-Mail Day Nursery Association
