Description
DESCRIPTION:  The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at
Waymart, consists of a medium security prison facility housing
1,100 inmates and a 120 bed Forensic Treatment Center, which
provides inpatient psychiatric treatment in a secure setting for
adult male offenders admitted from an eleven (11) county
catchment area and any of the Commonwealth's State Correctional
Institutions.  SCI Waymart and the Forensic Treatment Center are
operated by the Department of Corrections.  Rehabilitative and
therapeutic treatment programming is available to inmates at both
SCI Waymart and the Forensic Treatment Center.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:  Volunteer opportunities are available
in the following areas: Inmate/patient/Volunteer Visitation
Program, Library Aide, Social Service/Psychology Aide, Alcoholics
Anonymous, Recreational Activities (softball, basketball,
volleyball, etc.), group activities (bingo, entertainment, etc.).

TIME COMMITMENT:  No minimum requirements.
Valid clearances are required.

A volunteer orientation is provided each volunteer/volunteer
group by various staff.  Orientation modules include: the mission
of SCI Waymart and the Forensic Treatment Center, Department of
Corrections Safety/Security Policy and Procedures, Volunteer
Relationship with Inmates, Mental Health Concepts.
